Tour tips from senior manager Ernst

If you want to know how to find the most beautiful places in Krimml or would like to know which walks lead to the best mountain huts and Alms in the National Park, or which peaks offer the best views, simply ask your host Ernst Steger – He is readily available with recommendations for walks, including a few local insider tips.

The most beautiful walks and hiking routes in Salzburger Land

The “Krimmler Achental” – Wonderful panoramic walk

The Krimmler Achental is one of the most beautiful high valleys in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Lush Alpine meadows, high alpine vegetation, and the rugged peaks catch the eye of the observer high above the Krimml waterfalls.

“Krimmler Wasserfallweg” – A display of nature for the family

A wonderful hiking route on which to experience the highest waterfalls in Europe with their impressive roar and their healing effects for asthmatics and those with allergies. The Krimml waterfalls have a fall height of 380 m, making them the largest waterfalls in Europe and a unique display of nature. Hiking path no. 40 takes you around a series of bends right next to the huge water masses; an indescribable experience that is not quickly forgotten. There are various viewing platforms for taking souvenir photos. Your guest card gives you free entry.

Zittauer Hütte

A tour to the Zittauerhütte mountain hut, picturesquely standing by the lower Wildgerlos lake, that requires a good level of fitness and stamina. The tour leads from Gerlos via the Schnöachtal to the Keeskarscharte and onto the Zittauer Hütte, and from there back to Finkau. This difficult, but incredibly beautiful tour takes a total walking time of 9.5 hours for 22 km and 1500 vertical metres.

Hiking, mountaineering, and climbing

From the yodelling path, to the waterfall path or the Klettersteig. The variety of hiking and mountain tours is practically unlimited. If you are looking for a hike or a tour lasting several days from hut to hut, hiking holidays in Krimml offer so much for you to discover. Find out more about the flora and fauna on guided tours in the Hohe Tauern National Park with an experienced National Park Ranger, or on the guided tours as part of the weekly programme.

Alms and mountain huts for traditional refreshment stops

What would a hike be without a good “Brettljause” snack and “Kaiserschmarrn” with wonderful views of mountain peaks. Visit the Alpine huts on your hiking holiday in Krimml and enjoy fresh Alpine produce such as cheese and Alpine butter and a glass of fresh milk. A real pleasure for body and soul.
