Cycling and mountain biking

Krimml is the first village in the Salzach valley and as such is also the starting point of the Tauernradweg route. Cyclists embark on their tour here, a route that takes them along the Salzach river as far as Salzburg and Passau. The Tauernradweg links the Alps with the Danube. This bike tour starts in Krimml, takes you via Zell am See and the music festival city of Salzburg to Passau, past amazing displays of nature and numerous attractions and highlights such as the historic city of Salzburg.

Route description & Tauernradweg information

• The Tauernradweg cycle route is 270 km in length (Tauernradweg circuit) or 310 km (Krimml-Passau)
• Vertical height difference: 600 m (Tauernradweg circuit) or 750 m (Krimml-Passau)
• The Saalachtal variant is especially suitable for families
• Arrival: either by car or on the Pinzgau local railway to Krimml to the Hotel Post
• Thanks to the height difference between Krimml (1076 m) to Salzburg (425 m), the route is mainly downhill, with just 2 climbs (Schwarzach, Werfen)

  Tauenradweg stage 3: Bruck – Schwarzach
  Tauenradweg stage 4: Schwarzach – Golling
  Tauenradweg stage 5: Golling – Salzburg
  Tauenradweg stage 6: Salzburg – Lofer
  Tauenradweg stage 7: Lofer – Bruck
• An alternative is to continue on the Tauernradweg from Salzburg in a northerly direction via Oberndorf. At St. Georgen, the Tauernradweg enters the “oberösterreichischer Natur-Erlebnis-Weg-Inn” route, continuing on to Passau.
